FREDERICK CANNON
Frederick Cannon is a retired Chief of Police with a 47 year law enforcement background. As an officer, he commanded his own Police Force in the British Colonial Police Service. He also served with two Sheriff's Departments in Ohio and Florida as their Chemical Agents and Weapons Instructor. Mr. Cannon has also lectured and instructed for 14 years at Palm Beach Community College - Criminal Justice Faculty. He has also conducted Non-lethal Weapons Training not only in the U.S.A. but also in many countries overseas for both Law Enforcement Departments and Correctional Departments. He is the author of "The Police Emergency Handbook" and a Life Member of I.A.C.P., which he joined in 1956 and has served on their International Relations Committee for many years. Mr. Cannon was honored by the Florida Peace Officers Association with Distinguished Life Membership in 1995.
Fred Cannon, who came to the U.S.A. in 1968 is an American Citizen. He is a graduate of the Senior Detective Training Academy of New Scotland Yard, a graduate of the Canadian Police College (R.C.M.P.) C.P.C. 29, and the U.S. International Police Academy in Washington, D.C. He was decorated by Her Majesty the Queen during his British Colonial Service with the following awards - M.V.O., M.B.E., Queen's Police Medal for Distinguished Service and the Colonial Police Medal for Meritorious Service. He is an Officer Brother of the Order of St. John and holds the St. John Service Medal.
He is an International Rifle and Pistol Shot with trophies and medals won at Bisley, England and many other countries overseas. In this field, he has also made his presence felt in the U.S.A. and Canada, and is an active shotgun shooter. For over 30 years he was a qualified rifle, pistol, sub-machine gun and shotgun instructor.
There is not a single branch of policing that Mr. Cannon has not been a part of including running a Detective Training Academy, a Marine Branch and was in charge of an 80 man Mounted Police Branch. Mr. Cannon is an excellent horseman himself, and had experience of quelling riotous crowds on horseback.
Mr. Cannon was Vice President of Smith & Wesson Chemical Company and Sales Manager of General Ordinance Equipment Corporation, both subsidiary companies of Smith & Wesson Corporation. He conducted lethal and non-lethal Training Seminars for this company for both Police and Military Personnel, even teaching courses at the F.B.I. Academy at Quantico, Virginia and the State Police Academy at Tallahassee, Florida. He also conducted a series of evening courses at Palm Beach Community College for persons wishing to qualify for permission ao apply for a concealed weapons permit in the State of Florida.
For 7 years, Fred Cannon was the owner and President of Fred Cannon & Associates, Inc. operating out of Delray Beach, Florida. Fred Cannon & Associates were manufacturers' Representatives for twelve manufacturing companies covering the whole of Florida and half of Georgia in both the law enforcement and sporting goods fields. Among the companies represented were Smith & Wesson Corporation, V.H. Blackinton & Company, Inc. and Becton Dickinson, Inc.
For the past 12 years he has been the Executive Secretary of the National Association of Police equipment Distributors, Inc. with members covering the whole of the United States, Canada and France. N.A.P.E.D. deals with all types of law enforcement equipment.
